Sister Marion Hurley (Margaret Eugene)

Sister Marion Hurley (Margaret Eugene), 95, beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died in Mont Marie Health Care Center, Holyoke on November 2, 2013. 

A native of Holyoke, MA, she was the daughter of Eugene and Margaret (Hannon) Hurley. Sister Marion entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield in 1936 from St. Jerome Parish, Holyoke. 
 
Her early education was at St. Jerome School and she graduated from St. Jerome High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee, MA. Sister Marion ministered in the Diocese of Springfield as a teacher at St. Joseph School, North Adams; as teacher and principal at St. Mary School, Northampton and as principal at St. Jerome High School, Holyoke; she was a teacher in the Diocese of Providence at St. Joseph (Hazard Memorial) School, Newport and in the Diocese of Worcester at St. Stephen High School, Worcester and St. Mary, Southbridge. 
 
From 1971-1979 she served on the Executive Board of the Sisters of St. Joseph. She was on the staff of the College of Our Lady of the Elms’ Alumnae Library from 1979-2002; continuing as a volunteer after her retirement. Sister Marion joined the St. Joseph Residence at Mont Marie in 2005. 
 
In addition to her Sisters in Community, she is survived by her sister Eleanor Morrissey of Holyoke and her brother Robert Hurley of Deerfield Beach, FL and their families. She was predeceased by her brother Eugene Hurley of Spencer, MA.
