
Sister Maria Edward Farr (Letitia), 96, beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died in Mont Marie Health Care Center, Holyoke, Mass. on November 10, 2014. A native of Pittsfield, Mass., she was the daughter of Edward and Anna (Gavin) Farr.
Sister Maria Edward entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield in 1937 from St. Charles Parish, Pittsfield. She graduated from St. Joseph High School, Pittsfield. She earned B.A. and M.A. degrees from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee.
Sister Maria Edward taught in the schools of the Diocese of Springfield in Holy Family, Our Lady of Hope, and Cathedral High School, Springfield; Blessed Sacrament, Greenfield; St. Mary, Northampton; St. Agnes, Dalton; Catholic Central Elementary and St. Mark, Pittsfield; in the Diocese of Worcester in St. Louis, Webster; Sacred Heart, Gardner and St. Stephen, Worcester. She also served as librarian at St. Mary, Longmeadow and in Developmental Reading at Holy Cross, Springfield and on the staff of the Bureau for Exceptional Children, Pittsfield.
In addition to her Sisters in Community, she is survived by her nephews, nieces and their families, including Kathleen Farr Gariepy of Florida, Maureen Farr Petruzella of Cheshire, Mass. and Carol Farr Chalifoux of Indiana. She was predeceased by her brothers, Donald and John Farr.
