Sister Constance Cawley (Dorothy Raymond), (10/21/1944), beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died in Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, MA on September 12, 2026. A native of Newport, RI, Sister was the daughter of Raymond and Dorothy (Miller) Cawley.
Sister Constance entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from St. Joseph Parish, Newport, RI in 1963. She was graduated from St. Catherine Academy, Newport. She earned a B.A. degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee and an M.Ed. in special education from St. Joseph College, West Hartford, CT. She earned certification in administration from American International College, Springfield.
Sister taught at Sacred Heart School, Gardner, MA and St. Patrick’s School, Chicopee. Sister was later principal of St. Patrick School and then Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School, Springfield. She also served as Pastoral Minister at St. Patrick Parish, Chicopee and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish, Springfield.
In addition to her Sisters in Community, Sister leaves her siblings, Dorothy Meyer, Patrick Cawley, Catherine Andrews, Mary Norbury, and John Cawley; and her deceased siblings, Anne Marie Alton, Margaret Boyle, RoseMary Marvel, Patricia Souza, Thomas Cawley, Raymond “Joe” Cawley, Jr., Ralph Cawley.
All services for Sr. Constance will take place on Friday, September 18, 2026. She will be waked from 9:00 AM with a prayer service at 9:30 AM. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM, Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA. Burial will be in Mont Marie Cemetery, Holyoke, MA.
