Sister Catherine Alaimo (John Constance), (4/11/1934), beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died in Bethany Health Care Center, Framingham, Mass. on February 16, 2025. Born in Thompsonville, Conn., she was the daughter of John and Constance (Sullivan) Alaimo.
Sister Catherine entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from Holy Cross Parish, Springfield, Mass. in 1964. She graduated from Cathedral High School, Springfield. She earned a B.A. degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee and an M.Ed. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Sister taught at St. Michael School, Northampton, Our Lady of Hope School, Springfield, and Blessed Sacrament School, Holyoke. She served as principal at Holy Family School, Springfield. She was Curriculum Coordinator for the Springfield Diocesan Schools’ Office and Education Coordinator at the Grey House, Springfield, and conducted Adult Education classes at the Urban League of Springfield. Sister was also the facilitator for the SSJ Quilters for Griffin’s Friends.
In addition to her Sisters in community, Sister leaves her sister, Elizabeth Alaimo, several nieces, nephews and several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Constance, her brothers Joseph, John (Ann) and James (Faith Mary).
All services for Sr. Catherine will take place in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, Holyoke, Mass. on Monday, February 24, 2025. The wake will be at 9:00AM with a prayer service at 9:30 AM followed by the Liturgy of Chrisian Burial. Burial will be in Mont Marie Cemetery, Holyoke, Mass.
