
Sister Arlene Kalin (Walter Madeline), 84, beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died in Framingham, Mass. on February 22, 2023. Born in Pawtucket, RI, she was the daughter of Walter Edward and Madeline Gertrude (Tully) Kalin.
Sister Arlene entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from St. Edward Parish, Pawtucket in 1956. She was graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Pawtucket. She earned an A.B. degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee and an M.A. in Religious Education from Providence College.
She served as an elementary school teacher at schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including St. Peter’s, Worcester and St. Lucy’s Middletown, RI. She was director of religious education at St. Ann Parish, Cranston and St. William’s, Warwick where she subsequently served as pastoral minister. She was director of operations at Warwick House of Hope, and worked at The DaVinci Center for Community Progress and Kent House in Warwick.
In addition to her Sisters in community Sister Arlene leaves a cousin, Margaret Moynihan of West Hartford, CT. She was predeceased by her parents and other relatives. All services for Sr. Arlene will take place in Blessed Sacrament Church, Holyoke, Mass., Monday, February 27, 2023. She will be waked from 9:00 AM with a prayer service at 9:30 AM. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Mont Marie Cemetery.
