Sister Lucille Bertrand (Marie du Bon Pasteur), (9/14/32), beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died in Framingham, Mass. on July 13, 2022. A native of New Bedford, Mass., she was the daughter of Antoine and Emilia (Pelletier) Bertrand.
Sister Lucille entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Le Puy in Fall River from St. Joseph Parish, New Bedford in 1947 and became a Sister of St. Joseph of Springfield when the Congregations merged in 1974. Sister received her early education in the parochial schools of New Bedford. She was graduated from Novitiate High School and Sacred Heart College, Fall River.
Among Sister’s teaching assignments were: St. Matthew, St Jean Baptiste, Blessed Sacrament and Montessori School of the Angels, all in Fall River; St. Michael, and St. Louis, Swansea; St. Theresa, New Bedford and Our Lady of the Angels, Worcester. She was also in the Senior Aide Program of Catholic Charities, Worcester and volunteered as a Parish Visitor in Southbridge.
In addition to her Sisters in Community, she is survived by a sister, Pauline Clark of New Hartford, New York. Sister was predeceased by her siblings, Roger Bertrand, Roland Bertrand, Raymond Bertrand, Antoine Bertrand, Rita St. Laurent, Robert Bertrand, Therese Gauthier, Louise Bertrand. Sister leaves several nieces and nephews.
All services for Sr. Lucille will take place in Blessed Sacrament Church, Holyoke, Mass. on Saturday, July 16, 2022. She will be waked from 9:00 AM with a prayer service at 9:15 AM. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Mont Marie Cemetery.
