
Sister Frances Gloster (Joan Catherine), 80, beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died in Chicopee on June 24, 2022. A native of Springfield, Mass., she was the daughter of Francis J. and Catherine F. (Ostrowski) Gloster.
Sister Frances entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from Holy Name Parish, Springfield in 1959. She was graduated from Cathedral High School, Springfield. She earned an A.B. degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee and an M.A. in English from (then) Westfield State College.
Sister served as a teacher in many elementary schools in the Springfield Diocese as well as at Cathedral High School. She was principal at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Holyoke for four years. She ministered to the people of St. John the Evangelist Parish, Agawam, was Director of the Office of Bereavement for the Diocese of Springfield, and worked in the Pastoral Ministry Office of the Diocese. She served as the retirement assistant at the St. Joseph Residence and was an ESL Tutor at Gray House.
In addition to her Sisters in community, she leaves her sister Mary, a nephew and a niece. Sr. Frances was predeceased by her parents, her sister Joan and her brother John.
All services for Sr. Frances will take place at Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke on June 29, 2022. She will be waked from 9:00 am to 9:45 am with a prayer service at 9:15 am. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 am. Burial will be in Mont Marie Cemetery in Holyoke.
