Sister Elizabeth Molloy, (James Gertrude)

Sister Elizabeth Molloy, (James Gertrude), 94, beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died in Mont Marie Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, Holyoke, Mass., on March 27, 2017. Born in Auburn, Mass., she was the daughter of James and Gertrude (Daley) Molloy.

Sister Elizabeth entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from St. Joseph Parish, Auburn in 1941.  She graduated from St. Peter High School, Worcester, earned an A.B. degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee and a Master’s degree in pastoral ministry from St. Joseph College, West Hartford.

Sister taught in the Diocese of Springfield at Holy Name School, Springfield and Blessed Sacrament and St. Jerome Schools, Holyoke, and in the Diocese of Worcester at St. Joseph School, North Brookfield and St. Peter Marian School, Worcester.  She served as director of parish religious education programs in St. Cecilia Parish, Wilbraham and in St. Patrick Parish and Nativity Parish, Chicopee.  She was on the staff of the Gray House, Springfield and the staff of the Maguire Center at the College of Our Lady of the Elms. 

In addition to her Sisters in community, she is survived by her sisters, Sister Janice Molloy, SSJ of West Springfield and Kathleen Molloy of Holyoke, as well as by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings Mary Molloy Sullivan, John Molloy, and Edmund Molloy, all of Worcester, and by her siblings Robert Molloy, Paul Molloy and Donald Molloy, all of Auburn.

All services for Sr. Elizabeth will take place in St. Joseph Chapel at Mont Marie, 36 Lower Westfield Rd., Holyoke on Thursday, March 30, 2017. The wake will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a prayer service at 10:00. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00. Burial will be in Mont Marie Cemetery.
