Sister Irene T. Magnant (Rita Lucian), 83, beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield in her 67th year, died in Mont Marie Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center on February 3, 2015. A native of Pawtucket, RI, she was the daughter of Lucian and Aldea (Masse) Magnant.
Sister entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from St. Cecilia Parish, Pawtucket. She was graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Pawtucket and earned a A.B. degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee, Mass.
Sister Irene’s teaching assignments were at Holy Rosary, Holyoke; St. Peter’s, Worcester; St. Joseph’s, Pittsfield and Cathedral High School in Springfield. In 1974 Sister was employed in the Business Office at Mont Marie until June 1988 when she took the position as Bookkeeper at Holyoke Catholic High School where she remained until June 2007.
In addition to her Sisters in Community, she is survived by two nieces, Adrienne and Lillian Jette. She was predeceased by her sister Rita Jette.
