
Sister Emily Kane (Sr. John Mary), 91, beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph for 73 years, died in Mont Marie Health Care Center on June 4, 2014. A native of Westfield, Mass., she was the daughter of John and Emily (McKay) Kane.
Sister Emily entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from St. Mary Parish, Westfield. She earned an A.B. degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee, Mass. and a M.A. from Assumption College, Worcester, Mass.
Sister Emily taught in the Diocese of Providence at St. Joseph School, Newport, R.I; in the Diocese of Springfield at Cathedral High School and Holyoke Catholic High School; in the Diocese of Worcester at St. Ann High School and St. Stephen High School. She also served in the Worcester Diocesan Office and as director of CCD at St. Patrick Parish, Whitinsville, Mass. She was also pastoral minister at St. Mary Parish, Thorndike, Mass. She served as a tutor at the Gray House in Springfield.
In addition to her Sisters in Community, she is survived by her brother Edward Kane of California.
