Sr. Elizabeth Marie Morrissey (Ruth Frances)

Sr. Elizabeth Marie Morrissey (Ruth Frances), 87, beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died on October 27, 2013 in Mont Marie Health Care Center, Holyoke, MA. Born in Woonsocket, RI she was the daughter of Eugene and Elizabeth (Mahon) Morrissey. 

Sister Elizabeth entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Vermont in 1954 from Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Burlington, VT. She became a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield in 2001 when the two Communities merged. She was graduated from Mt.St. Mary Academy, Burlington, VT, and earned a B.S. degree from Trinity College, Burlington and a M.A. degree from Providence College, Providence, R.I. 
 
Sister Elizabeth taught at Mt. St. Joseph Academy, Rutland, VT and at Bennington Catholic High School, Bennington. She also served at the College of St. Joseph the Provider, Rutland as faculty member, and Director of Admissions, 1964-65; Academic Dean, 1965-72; and in Public Relations and Development, 1978-82. Sister Elizabeth held several positions of service in her Congregation: Director of Postulants, two terms as President, and Director of the co-member program. She retired to St. Joseph Residence, Rutland in 2004. 
 
In addition to her Sisters in Community, she is survived by her sister Grace Morrissey of Burlington, VT, and by two brothers, Eugene Morrissey of Burlington and John Morrissey of Stowe, VT and their families.
