
Sister Louise Marie Assad (Agnes), 96, beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died on November 11, 2012 in Mont Marie Health Care Center, Holyoke, Mass. A native of Worcester, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Louise (Nader).
Sister entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield in 1935 from Our Lady of the Mercy Parish, Worcester. She received her early education at Sacred Heart School, Worcester and was graduated from Commerce High School, Worcester, in 1934. She earned an A.B. degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee and an M.A. degree there in 1957. She received State Certification as a Remedial Reading Teacher in 1974.
Among Sister Louise’s teaching assignments were the following schools: St. Stephen, Worcester, Sacred Heart, Holyoke, Holy Family, Springfield, Sacred Heart, Pawtucket, RI, St. Mary, Southbridge. She returned to St. Stephen, Worcester for her final teaching years. Sister retired at Mont Marie, Holyoke in 1989 where she made beautiful crocheted spreads for the Annual Craft Festival.
