
Sister Ann Butler (Sr. Catherine John), 90, beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died at Bethany Health Care Center in Framingham, Mass. on May 8, 2020. Born in Pittsfield, Mass., she was the daughter of John and Kathleen (Hagerty) Butler.
Sister Ann entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from Our Lady of Hope Parish, Springfield in 1946. She attended Our Lady of Hope School and graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield. She earned an A.B. degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee.
Sister ministered in the Diocese of Springfield as a teacher at St. Patrick School in Chicopee and Cathedral High School in Springfield; in the Diocese of Providence Sister Ann taught at St. Joseph School in Newport, Sacred Heart School in Pawtucket, and Bishop Keough High School in Pawtucket. Sister was also involved in the Intercessory Prayer Ministry of Providence.
In addition to her Sisters in Community, Sister Ann is survived by her sisters, Kathleen Butler and Winifred Butler SSJ, her sister-in-law Monica Butler and several generations of loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Sally, John and Kevin.
A private burial will be held at Mont Marie Cemetery, with a Memorial Mass to be held at later date.
