
Sister Loretta Scarlett, 88, known in religion as Sr. Vincent Joseph, beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died at Bethany Health Care Center in Framingham, Mass. on November 16, 2018. A native of South Barre, Mass., she was the daughter of George and Loretta (Despres) Scarlett.
Sister Loretta entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from St. Thomas Parish, South Barre in 1948. She graduated from Barre High School and earned a B.A. degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms College, Chicopee, Mass.
Sister ministered in the Springfield Diocese at Cathedral Grammar, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, St. Matthew and Holy Name Schools, Springfield, and St. Agnes School, Dalton. She served in the Diocese of Worcester at St. Mary School, Southbridge, St. Joseph School, North Brookfield and at Sacred Heart, Gardner as Principal and as Pastoral Associate. She was also a member of the support staff at Mont Marie.
In addition to her Sisters in Community, Sr. Loretta is survived by two nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Joseph Gallant and Dorina Bernard.
Services for Sr. Loretta will take place in St. Joseph Chapel at Mont Marie in Holyoke on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. She will be waked from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with a prayer service at 10:00 a.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Mont Marie Cemetery in Holyoke.
