Sister Ann Marie Mungovan
Sister Ann Marie Mungovan, 93, known in religion as Sr. Margaret John, beloved member of the Sisters of St Joseph of Springfield, died on August 15, 2017 at Mont Marie Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Holyoke. Born in Worcester, Mass., she was the daughter of John and Margaret (Twomey) Mungovan.
She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from St. Ann Parish, Worcester in 1941. Sister was graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart, Worcester. She earned a B.A. degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee, and a M.A. degree from Fairfield University.
Sister taught in the Diocese of Springfield in the following schools: Sacred Heart, Holyoke, St. Joseph, Pittsfield, St. Mary, Northampton, and Cathedral High School, Springfield, where she served for 21 years. She taught in the Diocese of Worcester in the following schools: St. Louis, Webster, Sacred Heart, Gardner, St. Mary, Milford and St. Peter High School in Worcester.
Sister Ann was preceded in death by her brothers John and Joseph Mungovan and her sisters Elizabeth Millus, Mary Seil and Marguerite Eastwood. In addition to her Sisters in Community, she is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews.
All services for Sr. Ann will take place in St. Joseph Chapel at Mont Marie on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. She will be waked from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m with a prayer service at 10:00 a.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Mont Marie Cemetery.
