Sister Maria Louise Loudon (Shirley)

Sister Maria Louise Loudon (Shirley), 91, beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield for 72 years, died in Mont Marie Health Care Center, Holyoke, on August 7, 2014. A native of Holyoke, Mass., she was the daughter of Raymond and Emma (Tagliabue) Loudon. 

Sister Maria Louise entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from Sacred Heart Parish, Holyoke. She was graduated from Sacred Heart High School and earned an A.B. degree from The College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee. Later in life, Sister also received education in nursing science, earning a LPN at Dean Vocational School, Holyoke, an Associate in Science in Nursing at Springfield Technical Community College, and a BSN at the College of Our Lady of the Elms. 
 
Sister Maria Louise taught in the Diocese of Springfield at Holy Family School and Cathedral High School, Springfield and St. Joseph School, Pittsfield. She served as a nurse at Providence Hospital, Holyoke; Municipal Hospital, Springfield; Springfield Visiting Nurses Association, Jewish Nursing Home, and Child Care in Home and Interim Care, Springfield. She was a Clinical Instructor at the College of Our Lady of the Elms. She retired in 2000. 
 
In addition to her Sisters in Community, she is survived by her sister-in-law Cecilia Loudon of Holyoke and a niece and nephews and their families. She is predeceased by her two brothers, Reid and David.
