Sister Patricia Curran (Dorothy John), (11/29/1938), beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died in Holyoke, Mass. on January 15, 2026. A Native of Southbridge, Mass., she was the daughter of John and Doris (Dumas) Curran.
Sister Patricia entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from St. Mary Parish, Southbridge in 1958. She was graduated from St. Mary High School, Southbridge. She earned an A.B. degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee, and L.P.N. from Sowela Technical Institute, Lake Charles, LA.
She taught at St. Joseph’s, North Brookfield; Sacred Heart, Gardner where she later became principal; and Annunciation School, Florence. Sister was principal of Our Lady’s Regional School, Vinton, LA. She worked as an L.P.N. at Farren Memorial Hospital, Montague and Mont Marie Infirmary. She subsequently spent 9 years serving in Korea with the Maryknoll Sisters. Upon her return, she ministered at Holy Rosary Parish, Hadley and served as Community Liaison with Mont Marie Healthcare Center. She staffed and managed the Mont Marie Gift Shop for many years and later worked as receptionist at the Congregation’s new administrative offices in Springfield and also volunteered in the Development Office.
In addition to her Sisters in Community, she is survived by her brother Richard and his wife Susan and two beloved nieces. Sister was predeceased by her sister, Sandra Curran Vallee.
All services for Sr. Patricia will take place at Blessed Sacrament Church, Holyoke, MA on January 23, 2026. She will be waked from 9 a.m. with a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mont Marie Cemetery.
