Sister Edith McAlice (Marian Leo)

Sister Edith McAlice (Marian Leo), (12/2/1935), beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died in Bethany Health Care Center, Framingham, Mass., on November 24, 2022.  A native of Pawtucket, RI she was the daughter of Leo F. and Edith M. (Nichols) McAlice.

Sister Edith entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from Sacred Heart Parish, Pawtucket in 1953. She was graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Pawtucket. She earned an A.B. degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee and an M.S., L.S. (Library Science) from The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC.

Sister taught at St. Charles School, Pittsfield and was Librarian at Elms College for twenty years. She was Pastoral Minister at St. Patrick Parish, Chicopee Falls, for 21 years. She was honored by the Chicopee St. Patrick Parade Committee as the Marshall of the 2003 Chicopee contingent in the Holyoke St. Patrick Parade. She also served two terms on the Executive Board of the Sisters of St. Joseph and later worked as a volunteer in the Development Office.

In addition to her Sisters in community, Sr. leaves two brothers, Leo McAlice of Walpole, Mass. and Arthur McAlice of Manteca, California.  She was predeceased by her brothers, Charles,  Brother Richard FSC, Henry, her sisters, Ruth and Frances; and several nieces and nephews.

All services for Sr. Edith will take place in Blessed Sacrament Church, Holyoke Mass.  on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.  She will be waked from 9:30 AM with a prayer service at 10:00 AM.  The Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 AM. Burial will be in Mont Marie Cemetery.
